Low-Fat Foods: Gentle on GLP-1 Nausea

Fat is the slowest nutrient to digest, and GLP-1 drugs already slow stomach emptying by roughly a third. Put those together and a fatty meal is the classic recipe for nausea, reflux and bloating. This list is for the days when your stomach feels fragile: foods low enough in fat (about 3 g or less per 100 g) that they rarely trigger the heaviness.

Common questions

Do I need to avoid fat entirely on Ozempic?

No — fat is not banned, it is a question of amount and timing. Healthy fats like olive oil, avocado and nuts are fine in small portions. The rule that matters most for nausea: avoid large, fatty meals, especially early in the dose-adjustment weeks.

What should I eat on a nausea day?

Small, low-fat, bland foods: cooked vegetables, lean chicken or fish, rice, toast, bananas, applesauce. Eat slowly, skip heavy sauces, and stay hydrated. Persistent vomiting that prevents fluids for 24 hours is a reason to contact a healthcare provider.

Is low-fat eating bad for long-term health?

Long-term, the quality of fat matters more than total avoidance — omega-3s (fish, flaxseed) and monounsaturated fats (olive oil, avocado) are beneficial. Use low-fat eating as a symptom management tool on hard days, not as a permanent diet.
